Four Observations from the Original Creation

  • The Gap (#2): Four Observations from the Original Creation [pdf & mp3]

Dr. Kent Hovind is among many “creation scientists” who misrepresent those of us who teach a gap of time and space between Genesis 1.1 and 1.2. They claim that “the gap theory became a convenient method by which theologians compromise Holy Scripture with Darwin’s evolution theory.” Hovind and his collegues say that we use the Gap to suggest an explanation for the billions of years of evolution proposed by modern science and thereby “harmonize God’s perfect Word with man’s imperfect thoughts.”

This is what is commonly called a "straw man" argument (it is a logical fallacy). If the student of Scripture will make four simple observations in Genesis 1.1, he will see that these claims are false and the biblical support for a Gap does exists, and that in abundance.
